There aren't a great many websites related to fighting curfews. Hence the creation
of this website. But here are some good youth-empowering sites.
The ACLU
The ACLU is, without question, the organization leading the charge against
curfews. They've spent millions of dollars and countless hours fighting not
only against curfews, but for all sorts of First
Amendment and Constitutional rights. Their site doesn't contain a dedicated
section on curfews, but their news archive contains quite a few articles on
curfews.
Americans for a Society Free from
Age Restriction
ASFAR appears to be a small group of limited impact, but their heart is
in the right place and their website is interesting. The describe themselves
as "an organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the legal civil
rights of youth." They go on to say that they fight the voting age (presumably,
they want to lower it), curfews and related laws.
YouthSpeak
Billed as "the only nationwide organization whose sole purpose is to allow
youth the right to vote."
Libertarian Rock
They provide the basic information on protesting, legal loopholes, and protests
taking place around the US. This information is useful to anybody battling curfews.
National Youth Rights Association
The National Youth Rights Association is an umbrella organization, covering the jobs of what was once several different youth-rights groups, and appears to be the biggest organization fighting for youth rights today.
Peacefire
Peacefire is an organization dedicated to freedom of speech on the Internet. They
actively battle Internet censorship, exposing flaws in the technologies that limit
what people can see on the web. This is one of the most active Internet- & youth-
freedom organizations today.
Brat
A youth-activism magazine based in Louisville, Kentucky. They publish a quarterly 'zine that is
also made available on-line. A well-written, timely, intelligent publication, they provide
some of the best of the best youth-rights data available on the Internet today.
All Thngs Considered
NPR's All
Things Considered's June 10th, 1998 story on the ineffectiveness of curfews. About
five minutes long, and requires the RealAudio player.
Infoshop - Anarchy Youth
Though this site takes a somewhat stronger stance than we do, it's most interesting. They
speak out against all sorts of youth oppression. Their slogan says it all: "helping
kids disobey since 1997". Check out their section on
curfews.
High School Underground
Although not directly related to curfews, I think that this site will strike a chord with
many of you Curfew.Org fans. It's for high school students that are frustrated with
the status quo, with being average, with not having a voice of their own. I wish
I'd made this site.
K.I.D.S.
If you just happen to live in Oregon, you might find this site useful. They're
a pretty active, even if local, youth-liberation group, with some good content
on their site.
